Pieter Ampe
Pieter Ampe was born in Muyinga, Burundi in 1982. He studied at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (2002-2003) as well as taking a course in stage dance at the Arnhem Dance Academy (2003-2004). From 2004 to 2008 he completed both P.A.R.T.S cycles in Brussels. During this training he created the solo performance ‘On Stage’ (2006) and ‘Still difficult duet’ (2007) with Guilherme Garrido. In 2008 he presented the duet ‘o feather of lead’ with Simon Mayer. All these shows are still on tour. For the 20th anniversary of the Vooruit Arts Centre he created ‘kiezen is verliezen’ (2003-2004). He could also be seen as a dancer in Mia Lawrence’s ‘When you look at me’ while also playing a role in Cirque Danton, directed by Jan Decorte and choreographed by Charlotte Vanden Eynde. For ‘Maria Theresia entdeckt die zeitgenössische Kunst’ (2008) he worked with the performance duo united sorry (Frans Poelstra & Robert Steijn), visual artist Roland Seidem and choreographer Anne Juren. At this time (2008-2011), he is in residence at Campo (Gent) and he is working with Guilherme Garrido, Ian Kesteleyn and Eva Maria Kuepfer. In 2008 he joined Rosas to work on The Song. Bostjan Antoncic
Bostjan Antoncic was born in Celje, Slovenia in 1980. He was trained at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, took part in several international workshops and taught at the High School for Contemporary Dance, Intakt and Mekan (Turkey). He performed in several pieces of Susan Quin (rush.tide.in, Pigeon, ...) and Mia Lawrence (In the belly of the cow and Dig Deep). He toured Europe with the international project Hotel Europa. In 2005, Bostjan auditioned and was selected for Rosas, where he danced in D'un soir un jour (2006) Bartók / Beethoven / Schönberg - Repertory Evening (2006), Steve Reich Evening (2007), Zeitung (2008), The Song (2009) and En Atendant (2010). Eleanor Bauer
Eleanor Bauer was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1983. She studied at Idyllwild Arts Academy and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she received her BFA in 2003. She completed the Research Cycle at PARTS in 2006. Her solos ELEANOR! (2005), Dig My Aura (2007), and a group piece At Large (2008) have toured internationally to critical acclaim. She established Good Move, vzw in 2008 to support new independent dance projects based in Brussels. In addition to her own work prior to Rosas, Bauer performs with choreographers Mette Ingvarsten (why we love action) and David Zambrano (Soul Project). She was part of the innovative research project "6M1L" (Six Months One Location, July-December 2008 at CCNM) in Montpellier with Xavier Le Roy, Ezster Salamon, Bojana Cvejic, Juan Dominguez, Mette Ingvartsen, Jefta Van Dinther, Gerald Kurdian, Chrysa Parkinson and the students of ex.e.r.ce.'08. Bauer is a virtual, proxy, and founding core member of the performance collective Heart/Heat/Hear [the] Bland/Band/Bend (2005 to present). Bauer's writing on dance has appeared in publications such as the Movement Research Performance Journal (NewYork), Maska (Lubjana), Sarma's B-Chronicles (Brussels), The Making Of The Making Of, and PARTS: Documenting 10 years of contemporary dance education.(Photo (c) Anne Van Aerschot.
Tale Dolven
Tale Dolven was born in 1981 in Stavanger, Norway. She studied at Statens Balletthoegskole in Oslo and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. She danced in Asking for...?, a solo choreographed for her by Norwegian choreographer Soelvi Edvardsen. After her studies she danced in Charlotte Vanden Eynde’s Beginnings. Endings, and choreographed and performed her own piece Gone. Although it might change. Before joining Rosas for D'un soir un jour, she took over one of the roles in the Raga for the Rainy Season. Tale has danced in Bartok, Beethoven, Schoenberg - Repertory Evening, Fase, four movements to the music of Steve Reich, Steve Reich Evening, Zeitung and the revival of Rosas danst Rosas. Carlos Garbin
Carlos Garbin (Brasil, 1980) studied ballet and contemporary dance at the City Academy in his hometown Caxias do Sul, while also dancing with the Academy’s company. At the same time he worked as a choreographer with local children for the social art project BPM – Batidas Por Minuto. In 2004, Carlos moved to Brussels, where he graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in 2008. During this period he performed as a dancer in David Zambrano’s Soul Project and Mia Lawrence’s When you look at me… while also creating own work Boarding (2006) and Raising the sparks (2006) with Liz Kinoshita. Fumiyo Ikeda
Fumiyo Ikeda, born in 1962 in Osaka, Japan. In 1979, she entered MUDRA, Maurice Béjart's dance school, where she met Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 1983 she joined the newly-founded company Rosas. Between 1983 and 2008 she contributed to the creation of and danced in almost all the productions: Rosas danst Rosas, Elena's Aria, Bartók / Aantekeningen, Mikrokosmos, Ottone,Ottone, Stella, Achterland, Toccata, Just Before, Drumming, I said I, In Real Time, Rain, April me, the Repertory Evening, Bitches Brew/ Tacoma Narrows, Kassandra, Raga for the Rainy Season, D’un soir un jour, Zeitung and the revivals of Mozart / Concert Arias and Woud. Fumiyo also contributed to several of Rosas’ films and videos: Répétitions, Hoppla!, Monoloog van Fumiyo Ikeda op het einde van Ottone Ottone, Ottone Ottone I & II, Rosa, Achterland and CounterPhrases. Alongside her activity within Rosas, Fumiyo Ikeda also worked with Steve Paxton, Needcompany, Josse De Pauw and Tom Jansen. She has participated in several films and theatre plays. In 2007 she created Nine Finger with Benjamin Verdonck and Alain Platel. This performance was selected for the Festival d’Avignon 2007. Matej Kejžar
Matej Kejžar was born in Slovenia in 1974. He graduated from the SNDO-School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam in 1998. After completing his degree, he enrolled for The X-Group post-graduate program at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. During his studies, he created a number of performances focusing on improvisation and composition. After returning to Slovenia, he continued to work as a choreographer and created several performances, including the solo piece Senser; the actor and dancer duet Simultaneous; a solo piece for two dancers Burlesque, a collaboration with A. Ivancic and The Stroj going by the name Zac; and Little Red Riding Hood, a collaboration with painter Jaša Mravlje. As a performer, he collaborated with various choreographers from Slovenia and from across Europe, among which were Maja Delak, Mala Kline, Katie Duck, Martin Sonderkamp, etc. Matei teaches contemporary technique, improvisation, and composition at different schools and universities, including P.A.R.T.S., SEAD, SNDO, as well as being a tutor at professional dance companies, such as Ultima Vez, Rosas and En Knap. He has been invited to present his work in countries across the globe, namely Austria, Russia, Italy, India, Taiwan, Spain, China, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, The Netherlands, Poland, etc. Photo (c) Anne Van Aerschot.
Cynthia Loemij
Cynthia Loemij was born in Brielle in the Netherlands in 1969. She took a teacher-training course at the Rotterdam dance academy, where she obtained her diploma in 1991. Since then she has been a member of the full-time core of Rosas. She was involved in the creation of ERTS, Mozart/Concert Arias, un moto di gioia, Amor constante más allá de la muerte, Verklärte Nacht, Woud, Just Before, Drumming, Quartett (a duet with Frank Vercruyssen), In Real Time, Rain and Small hands (a duet with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker), April me, Repertory Evening, Bitches Brew / Tacoma Narrows, Kassandra, the revival of Mozart / Concert Arias, Raga for the Rainy season / A Love Supreme, D'un soir un jour, Bartók / Beethoven / Schönberg Repertory Evening, Steve Reich Evening, Zeitung and En Atendant. She danced in the revivals and film versions of Achterland, Rosas danst Rosas and Mikrokosmos and in the opera Bluebeard’s Castle. In 2006 she took part in Nusch, a play by tg Stan. In 2009 she danced the duet Prélude à la mer with Mark Lorimer in the film of the same title by Thierry De Mey. She appeared in Kris Verdonck’s End and collaborated with Manon de Boer on the installations Dissonant and Mirror Modulation. With David Zambrano she created a duet for a piece called Holes. Mark Lorimer
Mark Lorimer (United Kingdom, 1969) trained at LCDS (London) and has since worked with, among others, the Featherstonehaughs/ Lea Anderson, Cie. Michèle Anne De Mey, Bock and Vincenzi, Mia Lawrence, Deborah Hay and Jonathan Burrows. From 1997, as a founding member of ZOO/Thomas Hauert, he participated in six group projects and choreographed Nylon Solution as part of “5”. With Rosas Lorimer has worked as both dancer and rehearsal director for several creations and reprises, as well as free-lancing in both roles. In 2006 he returned for the creation of D’un soir un jour. He danced in Bartok, Beethoven, Schoenberg - Repertory Evening, Steve Reich Evening, Zeitung, The Song and En Atendant. Teaching credits include ImpulsTanz Vienna, P.A.R.T.S., Laban Centre in London, and Movement Research in New York. Next year Mark Lorimer and Cynthia Loemij will begin work on a duet of their own. Mikael Marklund
Mikael Marklund started breakdancing in his hometown Skelleftea in Northern Sweden. In 2002, he moved to Stockholm, where he studied at the Swedish Ballet Academy for two years. In 2004, he came to Belgium to study at P.A.R.T.S. During his studies he created Untitled trio (2006), King of my castle (2007) and Deep Artificial Nonsense Concerning Everything (2008). At Vooruit Arts Centre’s 25th birthday bash you could catch him in Heine R. Avdal’s drop a line. Mikael joined Rosas for the creation of The Song (2009) and participates in En Atendant. Simon Mayer
Simon Mayer was born in Austria in 1984. From 1997 to 2003, he took classes at the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera. After completing his education, he joined the Vienna State Opera Ballet Company (2003- 2004). From 2004 to 2008, he completed PARTS’ two cycles. During this period, he developed his own work in and outside of school. He created solo performances such as I’m not gonna tell you a story, OVERDUB (Check the bambie) and Goldfishvariations, and group performances including Apfelstrudel/reasons not to laugh, JOJO and Oh feather of lead with Pieter Ampe. Outside of his dance training, he worked with Susanne Linke, Sebastian Prantl, Wim Vandekeybus and others. Simon Mayer directed the small opera “Gesellschftspiele” by Gunter Waldek at the Heimspiel performance festival, which he has been organizing annually in Austria since 2004. Sandra Ortega Bejarano
Sandra Ortega Bejarano was born in 1984 in Sevilla, Spain. She studies classical and contemporary dance at the Professional School of Dance in Sevilla and moves to Brussels where she graduates at P.A.R.T.S. in 2006. During her studies she danced in “Imagine a Green Wall” by Anouk van Dijk (2005), “Landmark” by Roberto Oliván (2006), “Relay” by David Hernandez (2006) and “Passed on” by Lance Gries (2006). She creates “Arts Morendi” with Benjamin Vandewalle and Theodossia Stathi (2004), “Rules Broken” with Sayaka Kaiwa (2005) and “Living Art / huiskamer Improvisation” with Yentl De Werdt (2006). After her studies she performed in “Cia. Proyecto Uno”, a choreography of Inmaculada Jimenez (2008), in Kris Verdonck’s “Heart” and "Pattent Human Energy"(2008), in “Machinations” by Johanne Saunier / Joji Inc (2008) and in “Patchagonia” and “Bolero” by Lisi Estaras / Les Ballets C de la B (2009). Chrysa Parkinson
Chrysa Parkinson is a performer and teacher living in Brussels. She teaches regularly at P.A.R.T.S/Rosas and works as a mentor/coordinatorfor the 2nd cycle students. She also teaches regularly at Dancentrum Jette in Brussels, Panetta Movement Center in New York, and atImpulstanz in Vienna. She is a member of ZOO/Thomas Hauert, and has also worked with Jonathan Burrows, Deborah Hay, John Jasperse, Meg Stuart, and David Zambrano. She was a member of Tere O’Connor Dance for many years in New York where she also performed with Irene Hultman, and Jennifer Monson, among other artists. During that time she taught at Movement Research and at NYU. She was awarded a Bessie for sustained achievement as a performer in 1996. In 2008 Chrysa worked as a teacher researching performance practices in Montpellier with 6M1L and Ex.e.r.c.e. From her work in Montpellier she is writing and recording audio essays on practice. In 2009/10 she is also working as a performer on creations with Jonathan Burrows and Mette Ingvartsen. She joined Rosas for the creation of En Atendant. Photo (c) David Bergé
Elizaveta Penkóva
Elizaveta Penkóva was born in St Petersburg, Russia in 1981, and obtained the Swedish nationality in 1999. She studied ballet at The Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm where she graduated in 1999. In June 2002 she graduated from the first cycle of P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. The same year she took part in the final of The European Dance Contest together with Johan Thelander, where they performed their own choreography "At this point". After P.A.R.T.S. Elizaveta joined The Gothenburg Opera Ballet, where she danced in " Swanlake2" by Jorma Uotinen, and in " The Nutckracker" by Pär Isberg. On January 1st, 2003, she joined Rosas to take part in the creation process of Bitches Brew / Tacoma Narrows, Kassandra. Since then she has danced in the revival of Mozart / Concert Arias, Rain, Raga for the rainy season / A love Supreme, D’un soir un jour, Bartok, Beethoven, Schoenberg -Repertory Evening, Steve Reich Evening, Zeitung and the revival of Rosas danst Rosas. Michaël Pomero
Michaël Pomero was born in Corsica in 1980. He started dancing at the Junior Ballet Company and continued his studies at the Rudra Béjart Workshop School in Lausanne. He commenced his professional career in 1999 at the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. In 2001, he joined the Lyon Opera Ballet where he performed work by John Jasperse, Angelin Preljocaj, Dominique Boivin, Russell Maliphant, and others. 2003 saw the beginning of his freelance career and a move to London, where he participated in two creations by Russell Maliphant, as well as working on different projects in the UK and Switzerland. In 2005, he co-founded the Loge 22 collective in Lyon. Michael has danced in productions by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker (Bartók / Beethoven / Schoenberg - Repertory Evening and The Song), Christiane Blaise, and Pierre Tallaron. For Loge 22, he directed the dance video Flat, which was presented at the Dance on Screen Festival 2006 in London and created the performance Compresse et réduction for the Cannes Dance Festival 2007 and Sur Faces in collaboration with Julien Monty in 2008. Sue-Yeon Youn
Sue-Yeon Youn was born in 1981 in South Korea. In 1987 she started taking ballet and Korean traditional dance classes and in 1994 she went to the Arts High School in Seoul. In 2002 she graduated from the Dance department at the Korean National University of Arts. In 2003 / 2004 Sue-Yeon studied at the Rotterdam Dance Academy. From 2004 till 2006 she followed the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S., from which she graduated with “Love. Death. My life with Ting -Yu. Oh wait, I am you” Sue-Yeon joined Rosas for the creation of Steve Reich Evening and took part in the creation of Zeitung, the revival of Rosas danst Rosas and En Atendanton 2010. Sandy Williams
Originally from Calgary, Canada, Sandy Williams attended the University of Calgary and Concordia University before relocating to Brussels in 2002 to attend P.A.R.T.S. After completing the first cycle he went on to create his own works (The Kansas City Shuffle) and collaborations with Jan Ritsema ("Blindspot", "KnowH2ow"), Lynda Gaudreau ("Document 4"), Andros Zins-Brown ("Day In / Day Out", "Limewire") Michéle Anne De Mey ("Sinfonia Eroica") and Deborah Hay ("I'll Crane For You"). Samantha van Wissen
Samantha van Wissen was born in 1970 in Roermond in the Netherlands. After training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, she danced for Rosas under Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. She participates in many creations such as ERTS, Mozart Concert Arias, Un moto di gioa (1996), Amor Constante mas alla de la muerte (1994), Verklärte Nacht (1995) and Woud (1996). She also danced in the performances and films of Achterland (1994)and Rosas danst Rosas (1997) as well as in the revival of Mikrokosmos, Achterland, Rosas danst Rosas and Rain. Since 1997, she is a member of ZOO/THOMAS HAUERT. She played in the childrenspiece 'Drie Zusters' directed by Inne Goris (Seven). She gives workshops at P.A.R.T.S and for other training programs. Sarah Ludi
Sarah Ludi was born in Switzerland in 1971. She worked during four years for Rosas (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker). During this period she participated in the creations Kinok (1994), Amor Constante más allá de la Muerte (1994), Woud (1995), the revival of Rosas danst Rosas,Bartok Quatuor N°4, Mozart/Concert Arias - un moto di gioia (1996), )and Duke Blue-beard's castle(1998). She also danced in the film of Rosas danst Rosas. Since 1998, Sara Ludi works with Thomas Hauert and participated in almost all of ZOO’s group projects: Cows in Space (1998),Pop-up song book (1999),Jetzt (2000),Verosimile (2002), "5" (2003),Modify (2004), More or less sad songs (2005),Walking Oscar (2006)and Accords in 2008.
