In recent years Rosas has dedicated particular attention to educational and participative projects. We want to intensify these efforts in the coming year even further and structure them better. As regards education, we make a distinction between education for dancers and public education. The former includes all initiatives that have the goal of transmitting all of the knowledge and experience gathered inside Rosas to a young generation of dancers. The latter includes initiatives where we try to lower the threshold to visiting a dance performance.

P.A.R.T.S.
In 1995, Rosas and De Munt/La Monnaie initiated the founding of the dance school PARTS (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios). Under the direction of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Theo Van Rompay PARTS rapidly developed into an innovative, internationally renowned school. Every two years a group of young dancers and choreographers leaves PARTS to add to the dynamism of the international contemporary dance community. Website P.A.R.T.S.
Bal Moderne
The concept of Bal Moderne is easy: three short choreographies (of about 3 minutes), specially made for people with no or very little dance experience, are taught in 45 minutes each to the public. The atmosphere is one of concentration mixed with pleasure. Neither the earnest or discipline of a dance class, nor the trendy idleness of a dancing. People of all ages are dancing with each other, in an atmosphere of solidarity, brought together by mere dance pleasure. The uniqueness of Bal Moderne is the intricate link with the contemporary artistic creation. The Bal Moderne takes as it’s starting point the contemporary dance in all it’s diversity. Choreographers, dancers, coaches, and participants do agree that the Bal Moderne is a very beautiful way to become acquainted with contemporary dance or to discover some of it’s well hidden secrets. As from the season 2007/2008 the organisation of the Bal Moderne is the responsability of Oonagh Duckworth, the original producer of the project since its outset in Paris. She can be contacted on oonaghduckworth@hotmail.com.
Dancingkids
Rosas offers contemporary dance classes for children on a weekly basis. About 250 children find on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings their way to one of the 30 classes in the studios of Rosas and PARTS. www.dancingkids.be
RondOmDans
In September 2008 Rosas started up the project RondOmDans (working title) in cooperation with two Brussels schools, namely the Imelda Instituut and the Maria Boodschaplyceum. Patrick Jordens of Lasso, the Brussels network for art education, is responsible for the coordination of the project. This is a first step towards profound and long-term youth participation. We have opted for General Secondary Education and Technical Secondary Education for students in the 5th and 6th year of high school. At this first edition we took the performance Steve Reich Evening as the starting point. RondOmDans visits schools. A theoretical explanation in class aided by videos of Rosas shows introduces the pupils to contemporary dance. A visit to Rosas/P.A.R.T.S. is also on the programme (technique lesson in contemporary dance; attending a class with first-year PARTS students; viewing moment PARTS students; introduction to Steve Reich Evening by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker) The programme wants to prepare the students as well as it can for viewing the dress rehearsal of Steve Reich Evening. The trajectory will be concluded with a final discussion in school.
