The first step opens the way, decides a direction, sets up a fundamental imbalance. The first step goes forward in the hope that nothing will be like it was before. Its trace is definitive, time will not erase it. Fase was one of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s first steps. With it, on an unknown itinerary away from the beaten track, she invented her own future. It was the launching of a working process as much as its accomplishment.
