Once was created on the 27th of november 2002 in the Rosas Performance Space. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker alone on stage, twenty years after Violin Phase, her first solo. A silky, luminous voice. A young woman, barely 22, alone with her guitar. She is the daughter of a Mexican physician, Albert Vinicio, and a Scottish mother, Joan Bridge Baez, both immigrants to the USA.The photo on the album cover shows her wearing a simple, azure-blue dress, strangely beautiful with her long black hair, her profile is determined, her skin amber-toned, her soft brown eyes seem fixed on a future bursting with promise. That was 1963. The album was called Joan Baez in Concert, Part 2. A pearl of pure emotion, astounding grace and fervent activism. It includes the famous We shall overcome which Joan sang that previous summer, at age 21, in front of 250,000 people during the civil rights.
