Rosas and P.A.R.T.S. mourn the passing of Janet Panetta

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Janet Panetta (1948-2023) passed away in New York City.

Janet Panetta was involved with P.A.R.T.S. from its very beginnings, in 1995, and taught the P.A.R.T.S students and Rosas dancers for many years. She developed a unique practice to teach ballet to contemporary dancers that made the students more aware of the architecture of their bodies. With her very warm and generous personality she inspired many generations of dancers at Rosas and P.A.R.T.S., and in the many other places her career as a dancer and teacher took her over the years.

On Wednesday, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker sent Janet the following message:

Dearest, most dearest Janet,
From M.L. I heard where and how you are now.
My dearest, my most dearest Janet,

I have been thinking about you, and, as they say in Flemish, from the bottom of my heart, I want to express all my respect and gratitude to you, for being such a source of inspiration and an example for so many generations of artists who passionately love dance, who take dance seriously as a way to celebrate, mourn, and reflect together.

P.A.R.T.S. and Rosas are doing well, but these are such turbulent, confusing times.

I want to close you in my arms and embrace you, my ballerina, dance me to the end of love…

Kisses,
Anne Teresa
