NL Rainer Maria Rilke schreef met zijn Lied van Liefde en Dood van Kornet Christoph Rilke een zinnelijke koortsdroom die tussenruimtes opent tussen proza en poëzie, lied en vertelling, man en vrouw, liefde en dood. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker benadert Rilkes poëtisch proza als partituur. ‘Hoe belichaam je taal, dans je een verhaal? Hoe kan je vanuit je ademhaling, een van de meest elementaire bewegingspatronen, tot choreografie komen? Wat gebeurt er als je de logica van een tekst confronteert met een daarvan onafhankelijke bewegingslogica? Neem het No-theater: beweging onderlijnt, accentueert of illustreert het verhaal, en toch behoudt ze een eigen logica, een autonome schoonheid, los van de tekst. Tegelijk wil ik de grijswaarden onderzoeken tussen ademen, spreken en zingen, tussen het mannelijke en het vrouwelijke, het lyrische en prozaïsche.'

FR Avec Le chant de l’amour et de la mort du cornette Christoph Rilke, Rainer Maria Rilke a écrit un rêve fiévreux et sensuel qui explore les interstices entre prose et poésie, entre mélodie et narration, entre homme et femme, entre l’amour et la mort. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker aborde la prose poétique de Rilke à la manière d’une partition. « Comment incarner la langue, danser une narration ? Comment déboucher sur une chorégraphie à partir de la respiration, l’une des figures gestuelles les plus élémentaires ? Que se passe-t-il quand on confronte la logique d’un texte à une logique de mouvement indépendante ? Prenez le théâtre nô : le mouvement souligne, accentue ou illustre la narration, tout en déployant sa logique propre, une beauté autonome qui s’affranchit du texte. Je veux explorer toutes ces zones d’ombre entre respiration, parole et chant, entre le masculin et le féminin, entre le lyrisme et le prosaïque. »

EN Rainer Maria Rilke’s The Lay of Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke inhabits the space between prose and poetry, song and story, man and woman, love and death. Choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker approaches Rilke’s sensuous fever dream as a musical score: ‘How can you embody language? Dance a story? How can breathing, one of the most elementary patterns of movement, develop into choreography? What happens when you confront the logic of a text with an autonomous logic of movement? Take, for example, Noh-theatre: movement underlines, accentuates or illustrates a story, and yet it maintains its own logic, its own beauty – independent of text or story. In Rilke’s Cornet, I wanted to explore the subtle nuances between breathing, speaking and singing, between the male and the female, the lyrical and the prosaic.’
